Sally Lister Bsc
I've been involved with horses since the age of 3, having spent years dedicating time and energy to equestrianism and am extremely passionate about every aspect of the sport. I have a degree in equine sports science, Intermediate teaching qualifications and am a qualified AI technician. Until 2013 I was a key player in the training of our young horses and a competitor in my own right. A break for children saw me take a more managerial/organisational role, but now that the children are a little older I'm enjoying being back in the saddle and also working on the ground with the mares, foals, young horses and stallions. A real joy.
I've been farming at Spa Farm my whole life. Having made the decision to diversify into equestrianism in 2003, my role in the day-to-day running of the business is key to the foaling of every mare that arrives at Brackenspa Stud. Sleepless nights are my remit all summer. Having foaled down over 300 mares now, I've acquired significant knowledge and experience along the way. I'm also responsible for the maintenance, jump building, hay making and land management that goes into looking after 100 acres of land. Although not a horse rider myself, I very much enjoy supporting Sally and the team every single day.
I'm the stud manager. From an early age I've been involved with horses. I've produced ridden horse, competed myself and am now very active with a Suffolk Punch rare breed. My young colt has been shown in hand with superb results and in time will be produced under saddle. My standards are meticulous and I work hard to ensure that all of our horses are well cared for and that our team are given all the help and guidance they need. I love producing young horses and am very proactive in getting them out, to showcase the quality we are striving to breed and produce. You'll never see a plaiting band in my hand, needle and thread all the way for me.
